Louis Friedenberg - Plan Oversite

Since 1947, Louis Friedenberg has fostered compliance and ensured the safety of electrical design projects throughout Southern California. In 1994, Friedenberg joined JMPE, a Santa Barbara-based firm specializing in cost-effective, energy-efficient electrical and lighting design solutions for government, commercial, and residential projects. His work with principal John Maloney, PE, includes construction review and plan checking.

A New York City native, Friedenberg graduated from Samuel Gompers Technical High School with an emphasis in electrical construction and maintenance. Between 1942-46, he achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army and saw active duty as an Electrician and B24 Belly Gunner. Upon his honorable discharge, Friedenberg moved to California and attained his diploma in Electrical Code Construction and Theory from Santa Monica Technical College.

From 1947-49, Friedenberg was employed as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician with the City of Los Angeles. Beginning in 1949 until his first "retirement" in 1987, Friedenberg served as the Senior Electrical Inspector for the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. The Los Angeles City Council decreed, ". . . Mr. Friedenberg's ability to apply himself to his electrical inspections duties regardless of his assignment, and his willingness to help the public, the industry and fellow employees, have made him an asset to the city of Los Angeles."

Never willing to really "retire," Friedenberg joined the City of Santa Barbara Community Development Department as the Senior Electrical Inspector for the next five years. After his second "retirement" in 1992, Mr. Friedenberg continued to serve as an independent consultant to such clients as the City of Carpinteria, and the Santa Barbara Electrical Design Group, before joining the staff of JMPE.

Professional affiliations include IAEI (International Association of Electrical Inspectors) where he has been an active member since 1953; as well as membership in the California State Board of Registered Construction Inspectors. Friedenberg resides in Oxnard Shores. In his leisure time, he enjoys music, poetry, and good books.
